Jazz hello. I think you do not compare like with like.
Weight Lifters and High Jumpers at start of a competition do not know how many lifts or jumps they must make to win. They are not told it is one round and final or 5 rounds and final like dance competitors.
Weight Lifters and High Jumpers compete to lift heavier or jump higher than others. - I just realise maybe this is how some people "dance" quickstep :-)
They are not required to all jump same height or lift same weight. They decide themselves. That is nature of their sport.
They get 3 chances at every new weight and height they choose to try. Miss out and they are eliminated. They can even make two attempts at one weight or height and fail and then choose to try heavier or higher and have one more attempt.
There is additonal benefit if you do make fewer attempts. There is an incentive to make less attempts. Many times in high jump all couples reach same height and winner is one who made less attempts.
Do we want dance competitions where:
winner is couple who dances less dances :-).
In every round every heat has three attempts at same dance but if you think you already have enough marks you sit out after one attempt?
Couple says thank you I will pass second round and only join in third round.
800 metres swimming means you must swim 800metres. 400 metres hurdle mean you must run 400 metres and jump same number of hurdles. Golf you must play all 18 holes each round. Tennis you must play certain number of sets.
If for some reason you cannot then you are eliminated..
Surely a 10 yes TEN Dance competition means you should dance 10 dances each round?
This was not a case where there was * or ** exemption in early round/s.
This event - European Union TEN Dance Championship - there were only 16 entries.
Each of 25 European Union member countries could enter - well there was confusion and originally rules said ONE couple per member country and then on programme it said 2 couples per country. Some Countries sent no competitors in fact 14 couples came from 10 East European member countries who ony joined EU in May 2004. .
In first round 15 couples danced 10 dances and 1 only 7. In Semi Final 12 coules danced 10 dances and Final 6 couples danced 10 dances So in Final 5 couples had performed a total of 30 dances and
1 - the winner - only 27, Many people were not happy at this.
Remember also that in first round because they did not dance all dances this could have impact on couples recalled for semi final. A couple could have had marks that they would not have received if all couples danced all dances
9 judges 3 dances makes 27 marks That can make a huge difference in first round recalls.
This championship 45 marks got you into semi
Would you really be happy to see
lets us say Stokkebroe dance but do NOT go onto floor for any standard dances just the Latin and always get enough marks to progress. So final they do not dance standard and get 6 6 6 6 6 and in Latin 1 1 1 1 1 Total 35.
In last World Champioships 35 would get you third place.
Is ths what a 10 Dance Competition means? Or should a couple dance 10 dances each round?
Can I just say that once Stokkebroe was excellent 10 Dance Champion with good standard dances and I only mention them to show what could happen..
