Re: Russia and Blackpool 2009

It will be interesting if Admin can confirm in due course but just running my eye down the couples in the Amateur Rising Stars it seems entries from Russia are down from 2008.  This would be in line with the reports of couples being placed under pressure not to compete.

German Amateur entries at Blackpool for some years have been declining.  Partly this is because the IDSF involved German organisers are attempting to claim that for Amateurs the "GOC" is more important than "The British".  Perhaps true for some Russians and Germans but not for the rest of the world and those who want to dance against "the best".

To those who are interested in checking untested features

You can try going to http://dancesportinfo.net/SLStatistics.aspx?CompId=7141

You have to have Silverlight installed for this. If you do not have it installed, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/resources/install.aspx first.

You can replace CompId=xyz by EventId=nnn to check countries in one event.

There are a lot of surprises on our site . Have you tried for example konami codes on our home page?

Re: the original post - is it also possible entries from certain countries were down due to financial issues?

For example - from the stats provided by Admin, Iceland had no couples in 2009, which could be explained by their currency falling off a cliff.

Another possible reason is the swine flue. I have heard that some Japanese couple did not come being afraid of that.

In any case difference in numbers is around 2%, i.e. can be treated like a statistical error, so in my opinion this year Blackpool was as successful as previous year.

Can someone explain what financial crisis and swine flu have to do with POLITICAL PRESSURE ?  Do we know from which of the divided Russian organisations the couples came?

Personally I am grateful that it failed and Blackpool was as succesful as before.

Now we just need all couples to dance 2009 Cervia Italian Open, 2009 Assen Dutch Open and the WDC Am League 2009 World Champs in Paris and we know that a better world is there.

Lets put a stop to illegal acts.

I noticed less visitors, not as many spectators standing to watch the excellent professionals on Friday night  as in the prior years .   Indication of a lower turn out/ interest ???

Do not believe Japanese dancers were detered by political pressures. Pork sales are down in Japan,  Japanese and Chinese are panicking about swine flu.  Financial situation has resulted in  spending cut backs.

Answer: POLITICAL PRESSURE has little , if not  anything to do with the above.

Good try.

The scientific basis  for this conclusion is????  Answer: POLITICAL PRESSURE has little , if not  anything to do with the above.

FACT.  For financial reasons many Amateurs now depart Blackpool at completion of their events as do many Latin couples.  Simple if you think about it and nothing at all to do with overall attendance/entries and audience on final night

....................or political pressure not to be there from the outset.

Do not forget Blackpool has grown from a 5 day Festival to a 7, then 8, now 9 day event.

Anyone know how many Russian couples came from OUTSIDE DSFR?

P.S.  Still trying to work out the significance of

Good try.

Question for you sunshine2.  If there was political pressure not to attend Blackpool - would what you describe not be the result?
