True Champions know when to retire.
Mirko and Alessia have won every competition they entered, totally in command and uncontested. They are retiring at the top of their dance careers, yet , known to just a few thousands of dance enthusiasts, just a fraction of the World's population, hardly financially rewarded in comparison with the World's best in many other sports - 100 m Dash, Boxing, Swimming, Tennis, Soccer, Car Racing, in fact Dancesport is probably the least financially rewarded sport....even World's best Chess Champions get more for their World title. Will these undefeated World Champions be televised, sponsored by the Watch,or Shoe makers ? Hardly. Is it not a shame , that IOC's recognized Olympic sport's and the sport's World Greatest shall not enjoy a greater recognition, destined to accepting invitations, doing shows, training well - off dance beginners and getting royalties from a few dance videos ?
Yet Mirko and Alessia have done so much for us all, they performed for us, Alessia an inspiration to women who thought it was not possible to take a charge in a sport where gentleman is supposed to dominate and lead - well done Alessia, and congrats to Mirko for his modesty and patience.
I am sure Mirko will continue to show us all what Ballroom dance is all about, pushing that yard stick higher and higher. I wish Mirko and Alessia good health and many rewarding years in their retirement from competitions and giving other great dancers the opportunity to taste the highest title .
Who will possibly step in their shoes ?
