Visiting the website of the International DanceSport Association www.idsa.com.ua I found it interesting to read they are members of a worldwide Sports body TAFISA

TAFISA – The Worldwide Family of Sport for All

The family of sports is growing constantly. More than thousand million participants are presently active in the most popular culture of our time: sports. From kindergarten to the third age: sport has become a partner for life.

Unspectacular and private – but full of fascination for every participant. In every minute of the day millions of people around the globe are swimming, cycling, playing, dancing etc. for fun and fitness.

ImageDue to this positive development of Sport for All worldwide the demand for an organizational structure to cope with the new tasks and challenges was growing constantly. Consequently, more than 40 countries gave their vote for the foundation of TAFISA in Bordeaux / France in September 1991. Since then TAFISA has grown dramatically. Today 153 Sport for All organizations from more than 100 countries from all continents are members of TAFISA.

No other Sport for All organization has this wide span of members around the world. Moreover, TAFISA now:

  • can count on the biggest group of experts on Sport for All worldwide
  • has programs for millions of participants
  • has a worldwide network of cooperation
  • has overcome the domination of Europe and is global now
  • has relationships with science, health promotion, world culture and the Olympic movement

In short, it can be stated that TAFISA and its members have contributed to change the face of modern sport. And TAFISA is prepared to meet the contemporary and future challenges of Sport for All.

The vision Sport for All or to put it more realistically Sport for the Most is not yet a reality! It is true that in some rich countries three quarters of the population are engaged in sport and physical activity. However, in some countries Sport for All is still for less than ten percent of the population. Indeed, it is TAFISA’s aim to give even more humans access to sport and physical activity! s TAFISA’s contribution to strive for a better world!

I like the bit about striving for a better world and it seems to me that TAFISA are more interested in sports and the competitors than the IOC.

Perhaps this is reflected in the different attitudes of the IDSA and the IDSF.
