WDC AL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ADJUDICATORS

Τετάρτη, 7 Οκτωβρίου 2009 9:37 πμ

When you run your eye down the list of Adjudicators for the WDC Amateur League World Championships the quality is superb.  What a wealth of knowledge and experience will be on duty and the couples in all ages should be thrilled that they will be assessed by many of the very best.  Congratulations to the organisers for securing the services of so many past champions with brilliant minds who will judge without fear or favour.

Ofcourse they will judge without favour...

But I don't deny that the judging panel is strong.

Without a doubt those couples dancing in another organisations World Championships in November and December will be wishing they had adjudicators of the same standard and ability and who will mark what they see.

In a recent TV broadcast of a Latin event the commentator stated about Alexei Silde & Anna Firstova "In one months time they will be the World Champions".

Looks like it is already arranged and how people perform on the night will not change the outcome.

And the same doesn't apply to the WDC?

Did you really expect any different outcome from the recent WDC

World Prof. Standard and do you expect a different champion

in the AL World Latin?

I think you overlook some important pointers Dizzery.

The WDC World Professional Ballroom Champion has for some time consistently been runners up to the previous champion and received several 1st placings during that time.  Of course it was expected that they would become the new champions but it was not so proclaimed and they had to dance to win.  In their case too the judges marked what they saw and believed on the night. If you were present in the hall and claim this to be an unfair result then please tell us your markings for the final.

If there is no IDSF ban on the WDC AL World Championships there could well be a new champion. However if things remain as last year it will be no major surprise to me after the reigning champions Blackpool performance and their consistency throughout the year if they retain their title.  Again though they will not be favoured by previous results but judged on their performance on the night.

In the case of the "other" world championship the Plohl partner ship has defeated the Silde partnership and Zaitsev has frequently picked up higher placings in individual dances. Everything should be open which is why it is surprising that during a TV show it is proclaimed that Silde/Firstova will be the World Champion in a months time.

Do not forget that Bizokas/Demidova produced a shock result in their first competition simply because judges of the same calibre marked not on form but what they saw and believed in that UK Championship.

I'm not suggesting that the outcome of World pro standard should have been any different,

well for the first 4 anyway, but just saying that "the English"  (WDC) judges aren't clean of bias either. Let's take the last British Open for example.

If the adjudicators had judged what they saw on the floor, then clearly Bosco and Pitton would not have finished 13th. Same goes for the GOC 2009 where Karabeys were undoubtably weaker of the two pairings in the eyes of the public (expect the germans) and not-adjudicating judges. Is this suggesting that the judging panel sees something different than the spectating judges? No.

It just shows that some individuals from "the English" did not like the fact that Paolo & Silvia decided to continue their career in the IPDSC and accepted the invitation to the World Games.

Although I'm unaware of the TV-broadcast you mentioned, I think it's safe to assume that Silde & Fristova will become the new world champions as will Ferruggia&Koehler in the standard category despite the fact that Silde DID and Ferruggia COULD HAVE(although I think they would have not) lost their placing in the British Open, because the panel can only consist of one of the disfavouring (for mentioned couples) "English" judge instead of a whole bunch.

Again, not saying that the WDC AL judging panel is bad, no, no, but that also the core of the dancing world can have somehthing on their mind that can blur their vision and judgement.

of course we agree with you in substance dizzery, there are many factors that influence human beings when they deliver their verdicts-judgements,  the disputed area is that in 'WDC case', the decisions will be made by "somebody" while IPDSC and IDSF decisions are made by " who-did-you-say-they-were ?"

In either case the educated spectators often know, based on the dance that day, who danced well,  and often cheer for names they have heard on TV, on DVDs, VCR teaching tapes etc.

Such is the human nature.

The fact remains, would you prefer to receive a mark from one or more of the dance legends, or from some countries local judge with IDSF certificate that he passed a three days, and or/an  afternoon  multiple choice exam ?

On that subject I agree with you and I have already passed on my concerns to my region's "heads" so to say.

I am not a fan of the IDSF "qualified" judging panels myself, but I have to step into this discussion as at least the part of the debate is based on a false premise.

Firstly, the guy openeyes mentioned was not a tv presenter, but he actually was a Czech member of the IDSF presidium.

Secondly, he did not say it was CERTAIN that the Silde/Firstova partnership are going to wind up being the world champions. He said that they are step away from the title and therefore they are LIKELY to become the World Champions. Which is not the same thing, is it? Either way, there is no doubt an IDSF representative should not publicly let such a statement out of his mouth, but still, I can see some twisting and turning of the facts. Either you are not Czech (since the broadcast was not translated into other languages) or you are just biased. I am not sold on the ways the IDSF go these days, but still there is no reason to make up statements that have never been said. The IDSF do a lot of things I personally do not agree with and there is no need to make up more of them :D

I would be more concerned about the claim Mr. Odstrcil also made during that broadcast and that is "the World Champions title is waiting for Schmitt/Salikhova to grab it in the future." That might sound like a plan to the paranoics among us ;)

And finally, thumbs up for Plohl/Lahvinovich ;)
